Second annual Halloween Parade launches Halloween in Boyne City

This Halloween many of the businesses in downtown Boyne will again be participating in the holiday festivities. Cindi Malin, owner of Cindifranco's Cool Stuff, will throw her second annual Halloween parade for all who are interested. "It's community spirit for the children, and it's always good to see what people do for the kids on Halloween," said Malin, "Come on down, get dressed up and march with us, or bring a chair and watch the parade." The parade will be on Oct. 31 at 4:30 p.m. (line-up starts at 4) and will start at Pine Street, proceeding from Lake to Water to Park street.
HAUNTED HOUSE - Also on Oct. 31 the Boyne City Firefighters Association will hold its free Haunted House at the red building adjacent to the Boyne District Library.
TRICK OR TREAT HOURS in Boyne City are from 5 to 8 p.m. on Halloween night.
DENTISTS OFFER CASH FOR CANDY - Every year two area dentists redefine the phrase "put your money where your mouth is." This Halloween, trick-or-treaters can bring their excess candy to Progressive Dental Care in Boyne City and receive $1 per pound. Drs. Danielle Swartz and Dennis Kirkby are leading this anti-decay movement by giving away dollars in exchange for cavity-provoking candy. In cooperation with the Boyne City American Legion Post, candy will be shipped overseas to our brave men and women serving in the Middle East. This is a great time to say "thank you" to them by offering a sweet treat from home. Dates for the candy collection are Nov. 1-10. The candy must be unopened. ADULT HALLOWEEN PARTY will be held at the Boyne City Eagles Club, 102 River St., Boyne City, from 8 p.m. to midnight Saturday, Oct. 29. TNT will be entertaining and a $50 prize will be awarded for the best costume and $25 for second place. Admission is $3 or $5 per couple. For information, call 231-582-6904.
NIGHTMARE AT CHALLENGE MOUNTAIN hosts its weekend haunted house experience every Friday and Saturday in October, from 7 to 10 p.m. at 2205 Springbrook Road, Boyne Falls. BOYNE MOUNTAIN ZIP OF TERROR - This Halloween, witches and ghosts won’t be the only ones flying through the air as Boyne Mountain’s 10-line zipline is transformed into the thrilling and haunting Zip of Terror. The spine-tingling phenomenon is offered every 30 minutes from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. on October 21, 22, 28 and 29. Reservations are requested. Please call 231.549.7256. Riders must be a minimum of three feet tall and weigh between 60 and 275 pounds. The cost is $45 per person, or $40 per person for parties with five or more. On Halloween weekend, October 28-30, Boyne Mountain also offers the annual Halloween Hoopla at Avalanche Bay Indoor Waterpark. Activities include the great pumpkin race, spooky story time, haunted hallway, hayrides, bonfire and s’mores and trick or treating.
PARTY BENEFITS "DRESSED FOR CHILL" - Water Street Cafe will be hosting a Halloween Party Open House for children on Sunday, Oct. 30 from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. They will be serving pizza, cider, doughnuts and assorted Halloween treats. Children are asked to come in costume and adults are invited to participate also. Tickets are $10 per person and are available at Water Street Cafe. All money collected will be donate to Eta Nu to benefit their “Dressed for Chill 2011" campaign to provide winter coats and outerwear to elementary school children in Boyne City. ZOMBIE FUN RUN - Boyne Area Cross Country teams are sponsoring Zombie Mountain Attack, a 5K Fun Run at Avalanche Mountain on Sunday, Oct. 30. Registration is $10 and starts at noon, with the race starting at 1 p.m. This family friendly, yet thrilling, fun run will be held at Avalanche Preserve, 1129 Wilson St., Boyne City.All proceeds support the Boyne City and Boyne Falls High School Cross Country teams. This isn’t your ordinary 5K run. The hilly terrain meanders through the beautiful 340-acre nature preserve with amazing views from the top of Avalanche Mountain. Runners are welcome to dress in Halloween costume, and each will be fitted with two flag football-type flag belts, each flag signifying one life. Zombies in costume will be dispersed along the 5K course to hinder and scare the dickens out of the runners. Runners will attempt to make it through the course without losing both their flags. All registrants will receive a keepsake gift, food and beverage, and are invited to an afterglow party at No Boundaries, 126 Water St., in downtown Boyne City, following the event.
