    Job Description

    Boyne City Public Schools is looking for two (2) part-time Regular Cooks for the middle school (1) 5.75 hours per day and (2) 2 hours per day.



    1. High School diploma or GED certificate

    2. Candidates must have high standards of quality, be dependable, and work very well both independently and as a member of a team. 

    3. This is a fast-paced job. Good general health and physical stamina are needed.


    Reports to: Director of Food Service  


    Job Goal: To provide high standards of quality service in the area of Food Service.


    Performance Responsibilities:

    1. Prepare food according to menus, special dietary or nutritional restrictions, and numbers of portions to be served and ensure the finished product is of the best quality both in flavor and appearance before it is served.

    2. Assist in loading ovens and transporting to warmers.

    3. Apportion and serve food to students and employees.

    4. Monitor use of government food commodities to ensure that proper procedures are followed.

    5. Monitor food distribution, ensuring that meals are delivered to the correct recipients and that guidelines such as those for special diets are followed.

    6. Clean and inspect galley equipment, kitchen appliances, and work areas in order to ensure cleanliness, functional operation and that sanitary conditions are met. 

    7. Follow SOP of food safety in preparing and storing foods

    8. Clean and sterilize dishes, kitchen utensils, equipment, and facilities.

    9. Stock service stations with items such as ice, napkins, and straws.

    10. Reports inferior quality of food or faulty equipment to the appropriate authority.

    11. Maintain a positive atmosphere in the kitchen where other staff can openly communicate concerns and needs of the school and students.

    12. Offer cooperation and assistance where needed for in-school activities and events.  

    13. Attend staff meetings when directed by Food Service Director.

    14. Count money, makes change, and completes related reports/paperwork.

    15. Other duties as assigned or requested
