Harbor House Publishers, a division of Bound Media, seeks an Editor/Writer to join our team to work in our custom publishing division. This full-time position will be involved in a variety of projects, including chamber of commerce directories and publications, convention and visitor publications, custom content, client specialized projects, and unique Harbor House publications. The ability to work with multiple clients in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment is an important part of this position. Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Project manage the editorial process for client publications which primarily consist of Community Guides, Business Directories, and Visitor Guides which includes:
- Fulfill publication plan from Assoc Publisher &/or Production Manager to include: Editorial word/page counts, number & type of stories to be developed
- Schedule & conduct content strategy discussion with client to determine editorial direction of project ( story ideas, and features ) as needed
- Develop editorial outline for client approval, including photography plan
- Research, Write, Proof, Copyedit stories as needed
- Schedule & conduct interviews with community individuals for publication features as required
- Assign stories and editorial duties as required
- Determine/Gather Photography as required
- Work with Associate Publisher & Production Manager to determine editorial deadlines for projects
- Meet editorial deadlines to ensure projects stay on target
- Deliver final editorial file to Associate Publisher for client review & approval
- Deliver one final editorial file to Production Manager for design & production
Participate in special projects and other duties as assigned which may include content for agency work, copy for company websites, etc.
Organize & Manage the editorial department electronic filing system to ensure smooth workflow between edit, design, and production teams
Minimum Qualifications - Education, Experience, Knowledge and Skills:
- Bachelor’s degree in English, Journalism, Marketing or Communications
- Superb written and oral communications skills
- Experience in magazine, newspaper or marketing & communications publishing
- Understanding of and experience in digital and social media content production
- Ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks with competing deadlines
- Command of editorial best practices and AP style
- Our preference is for someone that can commute to Boyne City
