Dust & Blush Bookshop is a romance-focused independent bookstore built around community, storytelling, and unforgettable reader experiences. We host events, bring authors to Northern Michigan, and create a space where readers can fall in love with books again.
In addition to books, Dust & Blush offers a mocktail bar experience designed to make the shop a cozy destination where readers can gather, relax, and celebrate stories together.
We are looking for passionate Part-Time Booksellers who love books, enjoy connecting with people, and want to help create a welcoming and memorable bookstore experience.
The Part-Time Bookseller supports the daily operations of Dust & Blush Bookshop by assisting customers, recommending books, maintaining the sales floor, and helping create a warm and inviting store environment.
Booksellers will also assist with our mocktail bar experience, helping prepare drinks during regular shop hours and bookstore events.
This role is perfect for someone who enjoys talking about books, engaging with customers, and contributing to a creative, community-centered space.
- Greet customers and provide excellent service with a welcoming attitude
- Recommend books based on customer interests and reading preferences
- Operate the point-of-sale system for purchases and returns
- Restock shelves and maintain organized book displays
- Assist with merchandising and seasonal book displays
- Stay informed on new releases, especially within romance and romantasy
- Help maintain a clean and inviting bookstore environment
- Support bookstore events such as author signings, book clubs, and reader gatherings
- Assist with setup and cleanup for bookstore events
- Prepare and serve mocktails during regular shop hours and bookstore events
- Help maintain the mocktail bar area, including stocking ingredients and keeping the space organized
- Passion for books and reading
- Interest in romance or romantasy books strongly preferred
- Friendly, welcoming, and customer-focused
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Reliable and comfortable working as part of a small team
- Positive attitude and ability to remain flexible and solution-oriented in a fast-paced environment
- Comfortable recommending books and talking with customers about reading
- Comfortable using basic technology (POS system, inventory tools, email)
- Previous retail, hospitality, or customer service experience preferred but not required
- This position will begin part-time during the pre-opening period
- Hours will increase as the bookstore enters peak season
- Some evening and weekend availability is required for bookstore events
- Applicants must be able to lift boxes of books and merchandise
- Reliable transportation is required
