• John Cool to lead Chamber Board in 2019

    John CoolThe Boyne Area Chamber Board of Directors has elected officers for 2019. John Cool of Charlevoix State Bank will be President, Shari Culver of Great Lakes Energy will be Vice President, Sarah Schraw of Schraw & Associates will be Secretary and Michael Doumanian of Boyne Mountain will be Treasurer. The new officers and entire board will be formally introduced and installed at the Chamber Annual Awards Gala on January 17th.
    Cool has been the Boyne City Market Manager for Charlevoix State Bank since 2016 and has been in the financial services industry for over a decade. In addition to his roles with Charlevoix State Bank and the Chamber, he is also the Vice President of the Boyne Valley Lions Club, Chairperson of Team Boyne, and a Director for the Great Lakes Energy People Fund. John lives in Boyne City with his wife Savanah and their daughter Keely.
    Cool is excited to be leading the Chamber in the year ahead. "2019 will be the second year of our three-year strategic plan," he said. "I'm looking forward to building on the momentum from 2018 and working with our board and staff to accomplish our goals in 2019. The next year will also be marked by change. With Ashley Cousens' upcoming departure, our new executive director Kim Akin started work this week in what I anticipate to be a smooth transition."
    Joining the board for the new year will be Elizabeth Looze, executive director of Challenge Mountain, a nonprofit providing adaptive recreational opportunities for adults and children living with disabilities. Elizabeth is a native of Leelanau County and lived in Petoskey for 20 years prior to moving to Boyne City in 2016. She is married to Jerry Looze, a registered nurse at McLaren Northern Michigan and a lifelong resident of Boyne City. Elizabeth and Jerry are the proud parents of Lily, a fourth-grader at Boyne City Elementary School. She and her family enjoy spending time with their four-legged family members in addition to skiing, biking, swimming,  boating and gardening.
