This weekend, Boyne City will be hosting the Michigan Mountain Mayhem (MMM) Spring Classic. The Spring Classic is a road bike event and is a timed challenge ride on the toughest terrain Michigan has to offer, with the 200k route boasting almost 10,000 feet of climbing. The ride starts at 7:00 a.m. from Boyne City Middle School this year and ends at Peninsula Beach.
The Michigan Mountain Mayhem will have a Mayhem Tent Party/Food Truck Lot Friday, June 14th during Stroll the Streets. We will have music, beer, and food at Peninsula Beach Park. All beer profits go to Top of Michigan Trails Council and help fund local trails and paths. There will be food trucks onsite with plenty of good food as well... Pigs Eatin' Ribs and Wasabi Street Kitchen will all be onsite and serving food. Bring the kids and let them play on the Splash Pad while you enjoy your dinner and drinks. This is an all-ages event and FREE to everyone!
This year we are expecting between 500-600 cyclists and are asking our community to please be aware of them on Saturday if you are out and about. Sharing our roads safely with cyclists is an important part of an organized ride. Most cyclists adhere to the rules of cycling and are respectful of the traffic they encounter, but there are always exceptions. We apologize in advance if you come across someone not obeying the rules. All our cyclists wear bib numbers, make a note of it, and report it to the police.
On the positive side of Boyne City hosting the MMM Spring Classic, we estimate that the ride brings between $250,000-$500,000 in revenue to our area during the 2-3 days the cyclists travel to our area to participate in the ride. Many riders bring their families and stay for a few days prior to the ride or stay for a few days after the ride. They stay at local hotels, Airbnb’s, eat at local restaurants and shop in our downtown area.
In addition to the increased revenue the ride brings to our area, it also allows us to give back to our community. Since beginning the MMM Spring Classic in 2010, our event has given over $106,000 to various organizations. Some the organizations who have benefited from our event are: The Top of Michigan Trails Council ($40,243), Boyne City Robotics, local Girl Scouts ($12,856), Boyne City Soccer ($5111), Harbor Springs Soccer, Boyne City Band ($4540), various Churches and Church Youth Groups ($4250), Boyne City Community Center/Splash Pad, the Charlevoix Humane Society, Good Neighbors Food Pantry (we also donate left over food to them after the ride), various Boyne City High School Graduation All Night Partys, Child Study Group, Boyne City Spanish Club, Concord Academy, Boyne City & Concord Academy Golf Teams, The Fly Wheelers, JDRF Adventure Club, East Jordan Cheerleaders, RFC Fire & Rescue, Bike 4 Breast Cancer, W.A.T.C.H, Boyne City Library, Charlevoix Community Foundation Boyne Endowment Fund and several others.
Our riders love traveling to our beautiful community to participate in this ride… thank you in advance for your understanding, patience, and support of the 2024 MMM Spring Classic. The weather is supposed to be beautiful… let’s make this ride the best one yet!
