Charlevoix, Mich – Munson Healthcare Charlevoix Hospital is one of nine hospitals in Michigan, and 394 nationally, to receive a 5-star ranking for Physician Communication from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) in 2024.
- With over 4,600 hospitals in the United States, this puts Charlevoix Hospital in the top 9% of hospitals for excellence in physician communication.
- Additionally, Charlevoix Hospital earned a 5-star CMS rating for Patient Recommendations, a distinction only 464 hospitals nationally received, with only nine in Michigan. This ranks Charlevoix Hospital in the top 10% in the country for patient recommendations.
“The recognition of Charlevoix Hospital from a patient standpoint, on physician communication and care received, is a testament to our commitment to putting the patients’ needs and concerns first,” said Joanne Schroeder, president and CEO, Charlevoix Hospital. “I want to applaud our providers for their efforts to partner with patients on their healthcare journey while continuing to maintain a high-level of quality care.”
CMS ratings are based on the Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems (HCAHPS) survey. HCAHPS is a national, standardized survey of hospital patients about their experiences during a recent inpatient hospital stay. The physician communication star rating and patient experience ratings combines data from three HCAHPS survey questions and summarizes how well patients feel that their physicians explained things clearly, listened carefully to them, and treated them with courtesy and respect.
